Description
Black Phillip is a bochet mead, meaning that the honey is heated to the point of caramelisation beforehand, creating toffee and sometimes smoky flavour notes. The mead is fermented along with Maroccan figs, vanilla pods, orange zest and matured with charred oak chips. The result is a surprisingly light mead, that leads with what is best described as a “figgy caramel” flavour that fades into notes of vanilla and just a hint of smoke. Devilishly good when served at room temperature or slightly warm.
Apothecary Mead is a very small mead producer based in Nottinghamshire. All of their meads are made in very small batches using British honey, and their fondness for eldritch styles is only exceeded by their skill in concocting elaborate and complex flavours.
