Medium dry and carbonated, the Barrel Aged Braggot is quite light and refreshing as it hits the mouth. The initial flavour is smooth and malty, but honey aficionados will pick up the aromas of the honey that linger afterwards along with the woody and smoky notes from the barrel.

Malt, hops and carbonation are all quite crisp and sharp flavours, so the best way to approach this braggot is as a beer with mead characteristics rather than the reverse. Even so, mead drinkers who usually prefer sweeter drinks may enjoy how the honey knocks the sharp edges off the beer. Meanwhile beer drinkers can revel in the number of new aromas that honey can bring to the table.

Hive Mind is a small meadery in southern Wales founded by two brothers, Matt and Kit. They specialise in a mix of traditional and lighter sparkling meads and braggots using purely UK honeys in addition to honey from their own hives. Their meads tend to emphasize flavours and aromatics over heavy sweetness, and their aim is to demonstrate the versatility and eco-friendliness of mead and honey in general.
